About Us
My name is Donald Clever and I was born and raised on Colorado, and because of that I love the outdoors.
As far back as I can remember I have been camping, skiing, riding motorcycles and ATV's, Hiking, and just about everything else that deals with the outdoors.
I spent 20 years in the Marines and saw the world. However even though it was great to experience unique and diverse cultures, I always longed to return to Colorado. There is just something about the mountains that I missed and when I retired from the Marines it was a no–brainer to return to Colorado.
What I like to do best is camping, just getting away from the city and for the most part away from cell phones. Don't get me wrong, I am not a total hermit. If you see some of our camp sites you will see some are quite functional and luxurious. We often eat better camping than we do back at home. But the main benefit is I don't think about work when I am out camping whereas I often think about my next camping trip while I am at work or home.
Other activities I like to do is skiing or snowmobiling in the winter, backpacking, motorcycling, 4-wheeling and hiking in the summer. I sometimes go white-water rafting, zip-lining, rock-climbing, fishing or hunting. In any rate I can usually find something to do or someplace to go nearly every weekend and major holiday all year long.
Because I love the great outdoors I wanted to create a site that I can share my passion with others. It is my hope to pass on some of my experience and knowledge though my blogs and emails. If there is an area where I may not have all the answers I am not afraid to reference other who can better provide the information. When I need equipment I often go to my local sporting goods store or online. I felt Camp Wild Ride could also be a great source of various products and books that can also enhance your camping experience.
